DailyDictation

It is an exciting task because years ago, as students, we didn't know about applications or web pages where we could practice listening skills. That time we used stereo to practice listening competence; every course book contained a cd. You were lucky if you sat close to the device because the sound was better there. Our teachers couldn't help exploit
the opportunities provided by the Internet.
In this case, we tried to figure out something to improve our listening skills. For example, we watched series in the original language with subtitles or tried to find something on youtube. Nowadays, it is easier. You can find dozens of apps and websites offering many facilities to practice nearly everything. I do not know applications for listening tasks, to tell the truth, but I used Google. I chose DailyDictation because it was the second hit, and as the legend says if it is in the first three matches, it is acceptable.
The page looks really simple; it is easy to use; however, it is not for total beginners. It is better if someone knows basic pronunciation. The best of it is that DailyDictation is free to use. There are four main topics on the main screen: Listen to the audio, Type what you hear, Check and Correct, and Read it out loud. In addition, there are around 350 exercises about general English, IELTS listening ("IELTS recordings will help you learn a lot of vocabulary and expressions about everyday conversations & academic talks.") English conversations, spelling names and numbers. Another crucial part is everybody can find the appropriate method for themselves. You can start by spelling simple words to listen to valuable everyday conversations.
Moreover, thanks to the facilities, you will have instant feedback about your work. Here is an example: you can choose to listen and type activity, where you must write down what you heard. You can attend as much time as you want. The programme will show you possible solutions if you need help. It automatically recognizes your mother language by your IP address, so it translates the sentence to Hungarian after the correct answer. And you can listen to every word individually in UK and USA pronunciation.
As far as I consider it, the page is perfect for individual learning or practice. What is more, teachers also can use it to make learning more enjoyable.
